Many of us love computer games, but not everyone can enjoy them without compromise. That without fuzzy graphics, incomplete screen mode, "jerky" gameplay or problems with the launch of the game. And the thing is "hardware", which is required for modern games. Of course, a real gamer will confidently say (and partly be right) that no, even the best, gaming laptop can compare with a gaming computer, but the desktop cannot be stuffed into a bag and enjoy your favorite game in any place, no matter where you are. .
Minimum requirements for gaming laptops
When planning to buy a good gaming laptop, you need to keep in mind - the name "gaming laptop" is not always justified in practice. Especially considering the growing demands of the current games in relation to the characteristics of laptops of the lower (and average) price segment. Here, the classic formula is the combination of the i5 (at best i7) of the eighth generation with the GeForce 1050 Ti / 1060. But interesting variants of budget cards of the “sixteenth” family are already presented - a good choice if you need a modern and energy efficient (which is important for a laptop) video card, even if it is with cut-down raytracing. And to hell with the hell, to be honest, there are still not many games for him, and the computational power is already needed at the level of the top RTX cards of the “twentieth” series, which are now available in notebook format, but also very voracious.
However, that we are fixated on the usual recipe of Intel + Nvidia? The return to the gaming segment of the “red” can already be considered accomplished, and the AMD Ryzen + AMD Radeon assembly (or Ryzen + Nvidia, if you basically digest the “red” video accelerators) now will be quite interesting. And the growth of competition in the market will not be overwhelmingly unique - we, the buyers, are interested not only in characteristics, but also in prices.
The main thing - do not forget about high-quality cooling: in games more difficult than the "Solitaire" and "Sapper" the quality of the cooling of the processor and video card is crucial for a laptop. You should not choose unnecessarily noisy models that can tire your ear after an hour of the game, or those where the cooling system drives the processor to the edge of throttling for the sake of compactness even on fresh thermal grease and no dust in the fans.
And, of course, there are no extra watt-hours in the battery: if 50-60 watt-hours are still acceptable for “younger” game models, then the top models already and 80 will not seem like much.
So, what gaming laptops offered to the Russian gamer at the end of 2018 - the first half of 2019 are considered the best?

Best entry level gaming laptops
ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DY-BQ024
Is the gaming (albeit entreelevny) laptop completely on the "red" gland? So yes, Asus presented this year a budget-by-average assembly based on AMD Ryzen 5 3550H and AMD Radeon RX 560X. This in itself is interesting at least “for the sake of feeling.” Heats up the interest and medal "King of the hill" from the editorial w3bsit3-dns.com.
The laptop looks good, although the case is tactile and weak, despite the stated compliance with the army standard MIL-STD 810G. Of course, if we need a truly “unkillable” laptop, it’s worth turning to a proven Panasonic Toughbook ... But for those, the price is one digit higher, and the games for them are really Minesweeper. To access the "stuffing" of the laptop (for example, to put a second level of memory) will, alas, have to remove the cover - it’s too early to think about upgrades. It's a pity, especially if you buy cheap equipment with a single SSD - after all, there is a 2.5-inch compartment for a file storage device.
Display FullHD, let it be only 15.6-inch, but it is made by IPS technology, supports AMD FreeSync and frame rates up to 120 Hz in the top configuration. He has a good color rendition - but, of course, if we consider it as applied to games, and not to design or work with photos (the working range of RGB is too small). But the acid motley grass in Far Cry New Dawn will definitely not disappoint you. The only "but" - for bright light, it already seems dull.
The processor is quite "fresh", presented this year. It works according to the formula “4 cores - 8 threads” at a base frequency of 2.1 GHz with a boost of up to 3.7 GHz. And, in general, it copes well in modern games at least at the console level without overheating and one hundred percent load. Naturally, it is worth forgetting about Ultras in AAA projects of recent years - but are we going to play (and on a laptop for 55 thousand rubles), and not be measured with FPS numbers? If the game uses the DirectX 12 MultiGPU API, then, by the way, both the discrete video card and the Vega 8 are working. The cooling system here is quite good, despite the low price of the laptop. A 48-watt-hour battery provides decent autonomy (by game, of course, to the standards).
A funny bonus from the manufacturer is that the Asus TUF Gaming M5 gaming mouse and laptop backpack are included in the package. In general, the one and the other is an amateur, but let it be. And in aggregate, we, perhaps, will give this laptop the first place in the rating among "state employees": shut up and take my money!
9.8 / 10
Easy to carry and quite good in autonomy laptop, which also allows you to play games not on Youtube. Ten hungry students out of ten.
MSI GL73 8RD-248XRU
In the case of MSI, the hardware is older, but it is still quite suitable for the budget game segment. We are talking about the Intel Core i5-8300H and GTX 1050 Ti, to which "docked" 8 GB of RAM. So, in games, the notebook's performance will be plus or minus at the level of the “red” assembly from the rating top, but the MSI has a 17.3-inch display, also available, according to the manufacturer’s website, with a working frequency of 120 Hz and a three-millisecond response. Alas, there is no SSD in the minimum configuration - only a terabyte “hard”, here you will need to upgrade (SSD, if anything, are connected to slot M.2). Let's finish the image with a SteelSeries keyboard and four speakers - in the budget segment, MSI clearly decided to attract the buyer with “ryushechkami”.
But we first go through the performance. The screen is relatively large - this is good. But this is a budget TN + film, which is already worse - viewing angles, color rendition especially budget. The cooling system under load copes well, but after a few hours of play, especially in summer, the fans will already be brought out of the limits of acoustic comfort. Although, if you get some kind of aviation branch to jet planes in War Thunder, you won't notice it. Owners of "Abrams" is also not scary.
The laptop battery is sucked up in games for a maximum of a couple of hours, there is no need to talk about serious autonomy. Cheap equipment without SSD noticeably sags in “hard” games in terms of performance during hard disk calls, and this spoils the picture the most. To summarize - the laptop is beautiful, well-assembled and pleasant tactile ... but, alas, in some places too budget.
9.6 / 10
In my opinion, it is made not bad for this price, it suits me in my favorite games. The same Far Cry 5, by the way, albeit with a decrease in settings, but took confidently.
Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-42)
If we meet “on clothes”, then we clearly have a game series - deliberately chopped lines of the case, red inserts and red lights, plastic textured carbon. Fortunately, the laptop is still not so vyglaglazen as often happens (yes, the author is traditionally infuriated by "game design", as it is usually understood).
Screen - 15.6 inches diagonally with FullHD resolution IPS-matrix. He has good viewing angles, but the lights, like many other "state employees", are blind for bright light. The color rendition, perhaps, is somewhat accentuated - this is often done to emphasize the game "beauty."
To access the drive bay and RAM there are hatches, there is no need to risk a guarantee for the upgrade. And the upgrade does not hurt - only 8 GB of RAM in one bar, the drive is a terabyte HDD paired with the frankly “sickly” 128GB SSD by today's standards.
“Iron” of the laptop is completely “red” - AMD Ryzen 5 2500 U processor, graphics card - Radeon 560X. Of the advantages of the processor, we note its energy efficiency - its TDP is only 15 W ... Stop, but we're talking about a gaming laptop! Yes, alas, the assembly performance is not the best, especially in processor-dependent games - while the battery still withstands just over an hour of play, despite the "economical" processor. So we cut down the processor-specific settings of the games and do not forget the power supply - well, and the laptop itself crawls down the rating, whatever one may say.
9.5 / 10
A good laptop for this money, I personally liked it. Cooling is quiet, does not interfere at night.
The best gaming laptops of the middle class
ASUS ROG Strix Scar Edition GL703GS
This notebook, according to the manufacturer, is “sharpened” primarily for network games, although, of course, the combination of i7-8750H with GeForce GTX 1070 in the maximum configuration of the GL703GS can also be shown in single-player ones. Its assets include last year's RedDot Award and IF Design Award, and this year the Russian portal iXBT also honored it. But let's go in order.
The 17-inch screen with a response time of 3 ms and a refresh rate of 144 Hz also supports G-Sync, so by gaming standards there are no complaints about it. He gives a beautiful picture, and the “iron” also gives a decent level of fps for this class - the same Far Cry 5 or Metro: Redux are going confidently. Well, and the network hits, which for the sake of mass audience are usually curtailed in appetites for system requirements, even “fly” above 100 fps without any problems.
The disk subsystem is assembled from Samsung's NVMe SSD (256 or 512 GB) and a Seagate terabyte "firewall". If desired, the system is easy to upgrade in this regard - access to the drives, as well as to the RAM, does not require removing the back cover and does not deprive the warranty. However, the memory in the "maximum speed" and so 32 gigabytes - in general, it does not make much sense to improve. But in the configuration with one bar for 16 GB, add the second in parallel.
The gaming laptop is assembled with high quality, it weighs moderately, it does not differ in excessive thickness - in the pursuit of gaming performance it was not deprived of mobility. True, the battery because of this, made non-removable. Asus heats up decently, but its three-fan cooling system copes with it, and all the heated air is sent back - the laptop does not try to fry the left or right hand lying on the table. Noise at it is above average - we will carry it to obvious minuses. But in aggregate, however, we give him the laurels of the winner.
9.7 / 10
The games released this year went smoothly. The picture is excellent, without statters and friezes.
Acer Predator Helios 500 (PH517-51-507H)
It looks, yes, and this notebook weighs impressively, but what about its gaming capabilities? First of all, naturally, it “drags” the GTX 1070 with 8 GB of video memory - games with “heavy” textures do not eat off some of the slower “RAM”, which is also not much (16 GB). However, there are four slots for strips, so there will be no problems with increasing the volume. But the i5-8300H quad-core processor is not enough by today's standards, so the laptop is more suitable for "video-dependent" scripted games, and not for the open-world games with a large number of NPCs (yes, the number of Novigrad residents in settings better limit).
A screen with G-Sync support and an update rate of 144 Hz is undoubtedly good. For games, it is great. Pleases and execution of the case - the laptop is nice just to feel, not to mention the games. But the dimensions, solid by notebook standards, made it possible to install a decent cooling system in performance - the video card can even be overclocked without the risk of critical overheating, which is an excellent indicator. True, the battery charge at the same time ... Well, let's not talk about the bad.
But about the shortcomings still say. The disk subsystem is definitely an upgrade: a 128 GB SSD is not enough. The laptop comes preloaded with Linux, which, despite the improvement of the situation in recent years, still looks funny to the game segment (well, let's not specify where we usually come from in Windows, for which we don’t need to pay extra). With its installation, by the way, will have to tinker.
9.6 / 10
Heavy games laptop takes well - affects the normal amount of video memory. SSD changed, the effect is excellent.
MSI GL73 8SDK-218XRU
The new gaming laptop from MSI, of course, is inferior to the more expensive in terms of the “stuffing”, but it can immediately boast a fresh GTC 1660 Ti video card. The older processor is what the model marking hints at - the eight in “8SDK” indicates exactly the eighth generation of Intel, but this made it possible to reduce the price. Saved and on RAM - it is installed only 8 GB, but, unlike the "younger" complete sets of the 8SDK line, it is installed with one bar, not two, that is, you can add a second one and get an acceptable 16 GB, and not change both bars which is more profitable.
A video card with 6 gigabytes of GDDR5 "on board" compared to the old "tenth" series of GTX copes with the loads much better. In fact, the card shows the level of GTX 1070 - and for a laptop is cheaper than 100 thousand, this is very nice.
The island keyboard is traditional for MSI - from SteelSeries, comfortable, with a good tactile response. RGB-backlight flexibly configured for different scenarios. From the "snacks" we note the presence of a network controller Killer and high-quality sound.
The overall impression of the laptop is twofold. On the one hand, he clearly needs at least an increase in RAM for modern games, and the screen could be better. But in general, he came out fairly balanced and fit into a moderate budget, so, let him not the first, but he deserved a worthy place in the ranking of the best gaming laptops.
9.5 / 10
The old laptop was also from MSI, decided not to change the usual brand - for the money a great offer, the video card is also a fresh line.
The best gaming laptops top level
ASUS ROG CHIMERA G703GX-EV154T
The recipe for removing the chimera, according to Asus, looks like this: we take an Intel Core i7 8750H, whose 6 cores can accelerate to 4.1 GHz, add an RTX 2080 video card with 8 gigabytes of memory, spice it up with 16 or 32 GB of RAM to choose from, pour in for a tasteful array of SSD + SSHD with an impressive total volume (3 x 256/512 GB M.2 NVMe PCIE 3.0 x 4, 1 TB 2.5 ”5400 rpm SSHD). Stop, it seems, we no longer output the chimera, but send it to the oven - then, to make the dish look prettier, we wrap it in an AU Optronics IPS screen with a frequency of 144 Hz and a 100% coverage of the sRGB range, and then we cover it with an aluminum lid.
It turned out delicious, although expensive. The laptop is undoubtedly powerful and without an upgrade - powerful even physically, how do you like 4.7 kg of live weight, a cooling system capable of heating a lunch and two (two, Karl!) Power supplies? The most inconvenient is that the hot air is blown out to the right hand, because of this we will cut down the laptop rating points. The cooling system is on four heat pipes in the video card and three in the processor, each chip has its own fan. By the way, guess which one of them warms up the mouse?
With such a power laptop, even despite the use of a 96 watt-hour battery, makes autonomy forget. Regular viewing of high-quality video already limits the running time just for the duration of an average film with some margin. However, it is still godly - in the top-end GXR configuration, the laptop uses the Intel Core i9-9980HK with factory overclocking to 4.7 GHz and overclocking the video card, its appetite is even more, only the video card eats 200 watts. So you probably already understand why a laptop has two power supplies with a capacity of 280 watts each? Yes, in the games you have to connect both, one just can not cope.
9.8 / 10
The most balanced notebook in the series by performance, processor and video at the same time take out all the games with a bang. True, from the outlet you will not depart.
MSI GT83VR 7RE Titan SLI
This gaming laptop has an increased diagonal of up to 18.4 ”, however, and the resolution of the matrix is now standard 1080p. Honestly, it would be more logical to do the opposite. However, in games, the screen is not bad, but it is perfect for watching movies.
The processor here is the i7-7820HK, but the video card is already weaker - the GTX 1070 is installed here. More precisely, the video card: it's not for nothing that SLI is indicated in the name. However, this is both a plus and a minus: far from all games, the use of less powerful cards in SLI offers an advantage over a more powerful single player. But the battery power consumption will already be more, and this is with the same capacity as the GT75VR 7RF Titan Pro. In addition, the laptop "put on weight" to 5.5 kg, and in the capacity of the integrated SSD also lost by half.
9.7 / 10
Considering that only this version with two 1080s is more powerful than this notebook - you know what I bought. Unambiguous top among gaming laptops today.
Acer Predator Triton 900 (PT917-71-731U)
The unusual transforming notebook undoubtedly attracts the eye, and the inner Hamster begins to scrape with his paws, like Lemmigivks from South Park, but his neighbor, Toad, immediately pulls out a baseball bat and stands guard over the wallet. Indeed, the price here is much higher, and the main characteristics at the level of "Chimera" from Asus. The same processor i7-8750H, the same RTX 2080.
So, do we pay extra only for the "sly" screen on a hinge? Not only. This screen itself with a multi-touch sensor also has 4K resolution - it can unscrew video settings in games even higher ... But only Asus has a better screen, and increasing the load on the video card is ruining the system’s energy balance - here’s only one power supply, 330 W, compared with the total 560 W "Chimera" it looks already not enough. And, frankly, is there any sense in 4K on the screen with a diagonal of 17.3 inches?
In general, the laptop came out controversial, designed more for gadget lovers than for “pure gamers”. Therefore, the first place in the ranking of the best gaming laptops he definitely does not shine.
9.6 / 10
I use the laptop not only for games, but also as an ordinary Internet browser-reader of books-video watcher: in the tablet mode with a sensor, by the way, it is very convenient.
MSI GS75 Stealth 8SG
So, and if we want exactly the same performance, but with normal transportability, that is, with a weight of less than 3 kg? Then we’ll look in the direction of the GS75 Stealth - this laptop is compact enough, it doesn’t suffer from a particular design (stealth), and inside it has all the same i7-8750H and RTX 2080. Plus, 32 GB of RAM, terabytes of solid-state drives, 144-hertz FullHD IPS-matrix. And all this weighs only 2.25 kg, even with the metal case.
But here immediately Winnie the Pooh wakes up in his head, mumbling under his breath "this is not without purpose." How to cool all this? After removing the bottom cover, you can see as many as three fans with a low profile - two are working on a video card, and, fortunately, the air is thrown back, but the third, the processor, drives the air to the right hand. And the video card itself is trimmed by the heat pack (and, accordingly, by power), so in reality, alas, the MSI laptop in games loses to the models that took the first places in the rating. Especially the gap is noticeable in demanding games. But under load, the laptop "eats" only a little more than 200 W, so even with the maximum load on the processor and video card, its battery can last for an hour, and not only will have time to find a free socket (or two - giggle in the direction of "Chimera" from Asus ).
The acoustics also suffered due to the compactness of the case - the speakers, whatever one may say, need a volume. Expectedly particularly affected bass. So how do you want us to load heavy artillery? You have to fork out for good headphones or external acoustics. And the case itself suffered from compactness - it is clearly flimsy. Therefore, above the third place, summing up, we will not put MSI.
9.4 / 10
The laptop, unlike the top "gaming", retains mobility, and this is more important for me than the number of fps on the counter.
ASUS ROG SCAR II Edition GL764GW
The laptop, named after the notorious family of rifles with a butt in the form of ugg, is assembled on the same i7 8750H, but the video card is no longer RTX 2080, but RTX 2070. True, it was not affected by the "circumcision". More frankly, the performance is affected by the fact that only 16 gigabytes of RAM is installed in the laptop - and, alas, the slats occupy both slots, so when upgrading you will have to change both at once.
The screen is made in accordance with the current requirements - high-quality IPS-matrix with high hertska, low response time and one hundred percent coating of the "red-green" range. He's worth his money, but of course he is inferior in terms of brightness and contrast.
Cooling - on two fans, blowing air strictly back. Moreover, two wide heat pipes combine the video card and processor chips and go to both radiators, and the third one is separate for the video accelerator. This improves the heat balance — with a high load on the video accelerator and a low load on the processor, the processor cooling takes over some of the load.
For data storage is responsible for the assembly of a 256-gigabyte SSD and a terabyte HDD. To be honest, I want to see a solid-state drive more - you should not put games with a large amount of high-resolution textures on a slow “hard” one, and the space on the SSD at such a rate will end quickly.
Nonetheless, it’s certainly not worthy of a place in the ranking, albeit not the highest, this notebook will be rated and completed.
9.2 / 10
Beautiful, durable, with a good screen and pulling fresh games - what else do you want for the price of less than 200 thousand in our time?
Which gaming laptop is better to buy?
The term “gaming laptop” is a combination of the incompatible: laptop manufacturers strive to provide them with the greatest autonomy of work, and hence the use of “truncated” processors and video accelerators with reduced power consumption. In games, however, powerful graphics cards, high-frequency processors are relevant, and all this actively consumes current and, which is equally important for laptops, it gets very hot. And the cooling possibilities of laptops are already very limited: try creating a laptop with a tower cooler or “dropsy”, which is the norm for a gaming PC. We’re keeping silent about top-end video cards: although the popular name “furnace” came from the GTX abbreviation in the Russian layout, video cards of game series are really capable of significantly heating the rooms.
Therefore, a gaming laptop is always the fruit of compromise, and in performance it will be inferior to a gaming PC assembled for the same money. But, if you do not have the opportunity to use a stationary system, and without games it’s boring, in our review we selected the best models of gaming laptops in 2019 from those on the Russian market.
By measuring your priorities and financial resources, you will certainly make the right choice. Well, to think about a quality laser mouse also does not interfere.
Have a nice shopping!
